Broken Chords

As you have seen from the left hand shuffle pattern, it is not always necessary to play all the notes of a chord together. Another great sound in Blues is the use of broken chords in the right hand. For more on broken chords, see Progressive Keyboard Technique . In the following example, the chords used are C root position and F second inversion.

The next example shows this technique applied to the last four bars of the Blues progression.

Now try playing these broken chords over a shuffle in the left hand part.
