Example 134 contains the chord D major which you have not previously learned. By using the chord construction formulas from the previous lesson, you can easily work out that a D chord contains the notes D, F# and A. Like any chord, there is more than one way to play a D chord. The following diagrams demonstrate the D chord in root position, first inversion and second inversion.
