Open A tuning is exactly the same as open G tuning except each string is tuned one tone (two frets) higher. The open string notes as shown in the following diagram will therefore be, beginning with the sixth string;
These notes form an A major chord. The A major chord consists of the notes A, C# and E. For more information on chord construction see the Appendices.
