Many Rock songs are based on an underlying rhythm of constant eighth notes, usually played by the drummer on the hi-hat cymbals. This means that if you intend to play in a band, it is essential to have control over eighth note rhythms. Example 17 (below) a simple keyboard part based on an eighth note rhythm played in octaves by the left hand, and using the chords C, F and G in the key of C.
